Saturday, January 13

Winter has arrived.  After a week of big rain storms with 2.3 inches of rain, the arctic cold has arrived.  Today is a transition day with temps dipping to 18 this morning and raising up to 27 earlier this afternoon.  Tonight however, temps will fall to 1 above zero and rise to only 8 above for the high Sunday.  We'll remain below 20 until Thursday the 18th and then cool off again for next weekend.

Snow chances are minimal.  We have a dusting on the ground now and a few snow showers may develop overnight tonight with the potential of 1-2 inches.  Because the air will be so cold, the snow will be very dry.  There doesn't seem to be any big storm headed our way in the next 7 days according to the GFS model.  The cold will stick around until about the 22nd though.

Sunday, Dec. 24

This must be what Christmas is like in the deep south.  Today's high was 61 and the morning low 46.  Morning fog gave way to clear skies and sunshine by lunch time.

The last five Christmases have been extreme.  In 2019, the Christmas Day high was 63. In 2020, the Christmas Day high was only 15.  In 2021, the Christmas Day high was 60.  In 2022, the Christmas Day high was 18.  Just two days earlier on the morning of December 23, 2022, the morning low was -9.  None of these years had snow.

The forecast high for Christmas Day 2024 is in the mid to upper 50's, so we will continue the yoyo of temperatures.
